Adult MinistryWe believe that God expects more from us than just worshiping together on Sunday mornings. He wants us to be engaged in an exciting, life-changing spiritual journey. Our goal is for every person to continue to develop as Christian servants with godly character, and continuing to connect with a smaller group of Christians who will love, care, challenge and encourage each other. At First Church we provide a wide variety of programs designed to help adults with their spiritual journey in every stage of life. We don't want anyone to feel like he/she has to make the journey alone. We hope that you will find a home in one of the following:
Adult Sunday School Classes
In addition to a worship service on Sunday morning, we encourage our adults to get involved in a Sunday School class. Our classes meet at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday. With a variety of teachers, classroom styles and blends, you should be able to find a class that "fits." We have classes for all ages from young to senior adults. The following classes are currently available:
Young Adults Class - (Senior High-Age 24) Teachers: Tim & Linda Carman
Homebuilders' Class - (Ages 35-55) Teacher: Dan Stoltzfus and Mark Saylor
Seniors' Bible Class - (Age 55 and Up) Teacher: Fernese Blevins
Class 101 "New Member's Class" - Teacher: Pastor Mike
This is a class designed for those interested in making First Church their home. This class meets quarterly in Pastor Mike's office at 9:45 AM on Sunday mornings. Discussion includes membership, mission, structure, doctrine and future goals of the First Church of God.
We have a worship team that leads in worship. We have some smaller ensembles, and also feature those who are specially gifted as soloists. We have a youth worship band/worship team that leads worship occasionally. We are working toward creating a worship band and are excited about using a variety of skilled instrumentalists in our worship.
There are many other opportunities to serve in worship each week. We have technical teams that coordinate and run our sound system, ushers, greeters, altar workers and those who prepare and serve the Lord's Supper.
If you would like to get involved in the worship ministry at First Church, contact Pastor Mike, or another of our staff.
We use drama as a means to communicate God's Word in a memorable and practical way. Ministry opportunities in the drama area include dramatic skits during worship and major productions at Christmas, Easter and other special times of the year.
If you would like to get involved in the drama ministry at First Church, contact Pastor Mike or the church office.
Men's and Women's Ministry
It's wonderful to worship together as a church family. It's wonderful to fellowship and study in a small group. But often women need special times of fellowship, study, and worship with other women, and men with men.
Both groups offer a variety of programs. Periodic events appeal to both the body and the spirit. Our men may enjoy a country breakfast followed by a time of fellowship and a special inspirational speaker. Our women may host a cooking school, complete with the sharing of recipes, drawings for free prizes, and of course, delicious samples to taste. There are also prayer retreats, crafts and much more.
There are many opportunities in women's ministry. WCG (Women of the Church of God) is our missions group and we sponsor WOW ("Wonderful Ordinary Women" with Extra Ordinary Purpose!) events to promote spiritual growth and fellowship among the ladies in our church as well as others who attend our events. These events are open to all ladies! Be watching our announcement section for upcoming events.
If you would like more information about Women's Ministries, contact our WCG President Gayle Bastin or another of our staff.
The men are affiliated with Promise Keepers International. There are many opportunities for fellowship among the men in the church. (Future activities will be announced)
We want every person to feel welcomed and valued. Therefore, there are numerous opportunities to serve in this area. Some of the ministries include greeters, parking lot attendants, visitation, phone ministry, etc.
If you would like to know more about these ministries, contact our Assimilation Director, Mark Saylor, or another of our staff.
Other areas of ministry include benevolence, prayer partners, van, nursing home and hospital visitation.
